Power just too good

But as they’ve done all day, the Power have provided the answers, and back-to-back goals from Finlayson and Burton have helped put them up by 44 points midway through the final quarter, 15.11.101 to 8.9.57.

Finlayson has a game-high five goals, while Burton becomes the Power’s fourth multiple goalkicker alongside Finlayson, Rozee and Rioli.

Culley kicks fourth goal

Culley is having a real day out now, and after gathering the crumbs deep in the forward line, he pops it through from 15m out for his fourth goal.

Finlayson is the only other player on the ground with as many goals as Culley.

With 14:07 remaining, West Coast are back within 32 points, 8.8.56 to 13.10.88.

Power in cruise control

West Coast 2.3, 3.6, 7.8 (50)

GOALS
Pt.Adelaide: Finlayson 4, Rozee 2, Rioli 2, Lord, Byrne-Jones, Drew, Powell-Pepper, Burton
West Coast: Culley 3, Allen 2, Waterman, Petruccelle

Pt.Adelaide: Drew 22, Rozee 20, Butters 16, Boak 16
West Coast: Kelly 28, Gaff 21, Waterman 17, Shuey 17, Jones 16

The Eagles were much better in the third quarter, but they just can’t make serious inroads into their deficit.

A sensational late goal from Burton from the boundary line ensured the Power won the third term by a point despite West Coast’s best efforts.

Port are now leading the clearances 33-31, tackles 56-54, marks 64-55, inside 50s 42-35, hitouts 33-31 and scoring shots 22-15.

Bailey Williams has been great in the ruck for West Coast and is leading the clearances (nine) and contested possessions (13).

Ginbey and Drew each have a game-high eight tackles.

Clear blue skies in Canberra

The conditions are pristine in the nation’s capital for the Giants-Lions clash.

Culley having a crack

Culley is having a real impact, especially after copping that big head clash from Jonas, and the 20-year-old now has a team-high three goals.

Late in the third quarter, the Eagles are back to within 31 points, 7.8.50 to 12.9.81.

Late out for Giants

Daniel Lloyd (calf) is a late withdrawal and has been replaced in the GWS line-up by Ryan Angwin.

The starting subs at Manuka Oval are Adam Kennedy (Giants) and Jarryd Lyons (Brisbane).

Rioli halts former side’s momentum

The Eagles have kept soldiering on despite their personnel issues, and even got back to within 31 points on the back of three consecutive goals.

But a familiar face in Rioli has pushed the margin back out to 37 with 4:58 to go in the third quarter, 12.9.81 to 6.8.44, after kicking a superb six-pointer from the pocket.

Rioli becomes the Power’s third multiple goalkicker along with Finlayson (four) and Rozee.

Shuey subbed out

Shuey has been subbed out due to an ankle injury and Bazzo has taken his place in the Eagles line-up.

The West Coast captain has presumably succumbed to the injury he picked up early in the first quarter.

It’s rotten luck for Shuey who has had a wretched run with injury in recent years and had only just returned to the line-up after overcoming a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have kicked back-to-back goals via Waterman and Culley and nearing the halfway mark of the third term, they trail by 35 points, 5.8.38 to 11.7.73.

Culley becomes West Coast’s second multiple goalkicker along with Allen.

Culley good to go

Culley has passed his concussion test and has been cleared to return to the field of play. But it might not be enough to save Jonas from a suspension.

Early in the third quarter, the Power are in total control, leading by 41 points, 11.7.73 to 4.8.32.

Eagles on track for another big loss

It’s getting really ugly for the Eagles now.

A spectacular Finlayson snap set shot from 45m out on the boundary puts the Power up by 42 points early in the third quarter, 10.6.66 to 3.6.24.

The former Giant now has a game-high four goals and West Coast are staring down the barrel of another heavy defeat.

The Power are leading the inside 50s 28-23, scoring shots 16-9, contested possessions 68-65 and hitouts 22-19.

The hosts have kicked seven of the last eight goals.
