Lucknow: In a coordinated crackdown on unauthorised passenger transport, traffic police and transport departments launched a joint enforcement drive at Kamta crossing in the city on Saturday. As part of the operation, 16 vehicles operating without valid permits and in violation of transport norms were seized on the spot.
The drive specifically targeted illegally operating vehicles that pick up passengers from roadside without authorisation. Officials stated that these vehicles were transporting commuters without adhering to permit and registration regulations. Of the 16 vehicles seized, 11 were SUVs commonly used for informal shuttle services while five were passenger buses.
"All seized vehicles have been sent to traffic police yard in Kalli Paschim for further proceedings," said a senior transport department official. He added that illegal operations pose serious risks to public safety.
DCP, East Zone, Shashank Singh said, "This is part of our ongoing initiative to curb illegal passenger transport. Similar surprise checks will be conducted at other major crossings as well. The drives will be carried out randomly to ensure compliance and enhance
road safety."
The department clarified strict action would continue against vehicle owners operating without valid licences or permits. The ongoing drive is part of a larger effort to ensure road safety and maintain traffic discipline across the city.
Authorities urged commuters to use only registered and approved transport services. Further inspections are planned at other busy junctions in coming days.
