Kanpur: One of the two leopard cubs rescued from Bijnor died at Etawah Safari Park on Sunday. The cub showed signs of lethargy and had stopped consuming food and water. Both the cubs, after being rescued, were brought to the Safari Park on March 24.
Safari director Anil Patel said that one male cub from Bijnor refused milk consumption on Saturday. Despite immediate medical intervention and enhanced care from the safari veterinarian, the cub's health continued to deteriorate, and it collapsed on Sunday.
The authorities conducted a post-mortem examination and dispatched the viscera to IVRI Bareilly for detailed analysis. The definitive cause of death will be confirmed after the investigation concludes.
The cubs were born in Bijnor's Social Forestry Division and later deserted by their mother. They were transferred to Etawah Safari Park on March 24. At the safari park, the cubs received specialised veterinary care and attention. The staff maintained continuous observation and provided hand-feeding support.
