Rural students excel over urban peers
Ahmedabad: The students from rural Ahmedabad performed better than their urban counterparts in both science and general streams of the Gujarat Class 12 exam. The science stream saw rural areas achieve an 86.31% success rate, while the city registered an 81.45% pass percentage. Similarly, in the general stream, 90.95% of rural students cleared the exam, surpassing urban students' 89.21% achievement.
For the science stream, 4,910 students from rural areas appeared for the exam against 4,915 registrations. About 677 failed the exam, with 32 achieving an A1 grade. The city witnessed 7,066 participants from 7,073 registrations, recording 1,318 failures and 35 A1 grades.

The general stream results showed students from urban areas securing 452 A1 grades, while those from rural areas obtained 281 A1 grades. Despite fewer top grades in rural areas, they maintained a higher overall success rate.
An annual comparison reveals Ahmedabad city's science stream students performed marginally well, with a 0.40% improvement, while rural area students showed a 1.26% growth in the pass rate. Notable changes include urban A1 achievers declining from 55 to 35, while rural areas maintained 32 A1 grades.
