Woman strangles mother-in-law to death, detained
Sambalpur: A 25-year-old woman was detained for allegedly strangling her mother-in-law to death in Kutasingha village, Sambalpur district, late Friday night. The accused, Monalisha Dehury, reportedly killed her 52-year-old mother-in-law, Lobani Dehury, while other family members were away.
Police also detained Monalisha's brother for questioning, though his involvement remains unclear. "We are interrogating both suspects. There are no visible injury marks on the body. The victim was strangled to death while she was sleeping," said Prasanta Meher, SDPO of Rairakhol.
Lobani's daughter found her mother lying on her cot with blood trickling from her mouth around 2 am on Saturday.
Ganesh Dehury, the victim's husband, there was a history of frequent arguments between his wife and daughter-in-law. "I usually stayed home to keep their fights under control. I left for Rourkela thinking they had made peace after 12-13 days without conflict," he said.
Monalisha, mother of a 6-month-old, fled the scene and informed her husband, Krushna Chandra Dehury, who works in Ahmedabad. Police sources said Monalisha often stayed at her father's house rather than with her in-laws.
"We will make an arrest soon," SDPO Meher added. A case has been registered at Rairakhol police station based on Ganesh's complaint.
