Congested road

The entire stretch of road from P and T Nagar to OCPM School is getting congested with every passing day. It is one of the main roads that links so many residential areas, commercial establishments and educational institutions. The point between Krishnapuram Colony junction to that of Provident Fund Office junction has become dangerous for road users, particularly those using cars. The already narrow road is now separated with a median which is compounding the problem. Due to the shrunk carriage space and haphazard parking  along commercial establishments, vehicle users face much hardship during morning and evening peak hours. There are no proper traffic or parking regulations. The situation gets worse with vehicles driven in a rash manner. It is high time the authorities took note of this pressing problem and found solutions.

Appeal to Commissioner

Kudos to  Corporation Commissioner Chitra Vijayan for acting without fear or favour. Her surprise visits to Mattuthavani parking lot to set things right and enthusiasm to bring the Mullaperiyar drinking water project to the city are laudable. She has great expectations from Madurai people. First she must make arrangements to restore garbage containers on all streets. She has established a ‘home for toddlers ‘ at Elango School for taking care of children if both the parents work in Corporation.  But these staff demand ‘huge tips’ for collecting garbage from houses. Secondly some bill collectors harass public to collect property tax arrears by stationing garbage collection vehicles in front of the houses. She has boldly made it known that Meenakshi temple owes ₹1 crore property tax dues.  Likewise she must inform the public whether railway stations and bus stands of the Central and State governments pay property tax in time. The Chief Minister must ensure that such honest and energetic Commissioners like Chitra and Dhinesh are retained for a reasonable period of time.

Road at a higher level than houses

Very recently Lakshmi Road in TVS Nagar was relaid without digging out the existing metalled layer and that has led to rise in road level. This high road level affects houses which were constructed in the 1960s. During rainy season, water entering into these houses is inevitable and for that the house owners had to spend huge amount to prevent this from happening. This holds good for majority of the houses constructed half a century back. Why no road contractors bother about this grave mistake which they have been making year after year?    S.Bala, TVS Nagar
