Man duped of ₹1.9 lakh in credit card scam

A 47-year-old private sector employee from Hyderabad was duped of nearly ₹1.9 lakh by a fraudster posing as HDFC Bank customer care representative.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, he recently submitted a request to the HDFC Bank to increase his credit card limit. Shortly thereafter, he received a WhatsApp call from a person claiming to represent the bank. Believing the call to be genuine, the victim followed the instructions provided during the conversation.

The fraudster sent a link through WhatsApp, which the victim clicked. Upon granting the requested permissions, the victim discovered that a sum of ₹1,89,779 had been fraudulently debited from his bank account.

He lodged a complaint with the cybercrime unit of the Hyderabad police. Investigation is under way.
