Patna: Upset over her husband's lackadaisical attitude towards family and their financial distress, a 40-year-old woman died allegedly by suicide at Malpur Purvi Patti Tarsapur Ward-2 in Samastipur district's Dalsinghsarai police station area late on Saturday night. Earlier in the day, Ishrat Khatoon had a dispute with her husband Mohd Rizwan who went to a neighbour's house to watch an IPL match without paying heed to the family's need for firewood for preparing food, according to police sources.
Dalsinghsarai station house officer (SHO) Irshad Alam said at first glance, it appears to be a case of suicide. "Initial investigations suggest domestic discord as the reason for the suicide. The family's financial situation was also not good, leading to frequent disputes between the husband and wife. However, the exact cause of the death will be known only after the postmortem report comes. Police are investigating the matter."
According to police sources, Rizwan did not go to work on Saturday and went to a neighbour's house to watch a cricket match in the evening. When he returned home around 10pm after the match, he found Ishrat hanging with the help of a scarf.
Subsequently, neighbours informed the police, which arrived at the scene and sent the body to sadar hospital for a postmortem examination.
"According to the neighbours, Ishrat, by nature, was a calm woman, but was under stress for the last few days. Ishrat had five children. On Saturday afternoon, the woman asked her husband to bring wood for cooking. He said he didn't have money, which made the woman angry," the SHO said.
