Palamu Tiger Reserve to get sniffer dog to curb poaching, animal trade
Daltonganj: The management of Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) is in talks with TRAFFIC, a joint initiative of World Wildlife Fund and the International Union of Conservation of Nature, to obtain a sniffer dog for the Betla National Park.
Honey, a sniffer dog which was brought here in 2023, died of jaundice eight weeks ago, officials said. The PTR management uses sniffer dogs to track and prevent poaching of animals, mostly deer, and their illegal trade. P K Jena, the deputy director of PTR's north division, said, "We are hopeful that TRAFFIC India will soon give us a sniffer dog." TNN
