The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Delhi government’s Chief Secretary and the city police over their alleged failure to devise a comprehensive mechanism to handle bomb threats in schools.
The court emphasised the urgent need for a coordinated response system, noting that such threats – often hoaxes – have become very common and are causing distress to students, parents, and school authorities.
In his plea, petitioner advocate Arpit Bhargava alleged inaction and a negligent approach by the government and police. The plea accused them of contempt for not complying with the court’s earlier directive on November 14, 2024.
The court had directed them to develop a comprehensive action plan with a detailed standard operating procedure to address such emergencies.
According to the petition, the court-mandated eight-week deadline expired on January 14, 2025, with no update on the development or implementation of the action plan.
Taking note of the delay, the court has now sought an update on the status report and summoned relevant government and police officials for the next hearing on May 19.
