Ludhiana: A 35-year-old man, yet to be identified, was found dead in a park near Cheema Chowk on Wednesday morning after allegedly being tied up and brutally beaten by workers of a nearby fuel station. The incident has sparked outrage over the use of vigilante justice.
According to police, the man was caught attempting to steal from the fuel station late Tuesday night. Balraj Singh, a security guard at the station, raised an alarm, following which three other employees—Sapan Mishra, Ankit Guleria, and Dilip Jha—joined him in assaulting the man.
Police were alerted to the body early Wednesday and found visible injury marks. CCTV footage from the fuel station confirmed the sequence of events, leading to the arrest of the four accused.
A case has been registered under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 3(5) (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by Dilbagh Singh, the station manager.
The incident raises serious questions about the handling of suspected crimes and the dangers of taking the law into one's own hands.
