RJD MLA shifted to Bhagalpur jail
Patna: RJD MLA Ritlal Yadav was transferred from Patna's Beur jail to Bhagalpur Camp Jail on Thursday and placed in the T-cell earlier occupied by former MLA Anant Singh. During the transfer, jail authorities confiscated approximately 1.5kg of gold jewellery worn by Yadav.
Until his relocation, Yadav had been sharing a ward in Beur jail with Anant Singh. Several of Yadav's associates, facing charges in various criminal cases, are also currently incarcerated in Beur jail.
The transfer follows a case in which the Danapur legislator is accused of demanding Rs 50 lakh in extortion from a builder. Yadav surrendered before the Danapur court on April 17 and was sent to Beur jail under 14-day judicial custody. An FIR had been lodged at Khagaul police station in connection with the allegations.
According to police sources, Yadav was continuously meeting with his associates inside the jail, which came to the attention of the Patna police. The police feared that he might orchestrate a major criminal act through his associates while being in jail.
Based on intelligence inputs from Beur jail, the Patna district administration compiled a report recommending the severing of Yadav's communication with his network. The report was submitted to the prison department, which subsequently approved the transfer to Bhagalpur jail and issued the necessary orders.
While the official reason cited by jail authorities was "administrative grounds", police sources said the move was a preventive step aimed at curbing possible criminal activities planned from within the jail.
