Milk producers in Kayathar staged a protest by pouring milk on the road, demanding that Aavin increase the procurement price of the milk.
The protesters urged Aavin to raise the procurement price of cow milk by ₹10 per litre to ₹45 and buffalo milk by ₹10 per litre to ₹55. They also demanded that an incentive of ₹3 per litre be credited to cooperative bank accounts and distributed through the milk producers’ union.
Additionally, they called for Aavin to bear the cost of insurance for milch cows and ensure their protection. Their another key demand was that payments be made thrice a month.
The protest, organised by the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Association, was led by district president Ramasubbu. State Secretary Perumal addressed the gathering.
A large number of people participated in the protest, holding placards and raising slogans. Later, they marched from Madurai Main Road to the Tahsildar’s office, where they submitted a petition.
