Naresh Meena acquitted in ’04 case of obstructing govt work

Jaipur: A city court Thursday acquitted former Rajasthan University student leader Naresh Meena in a 20-year-old case of obstructing govt work, citing insufficient evidence.
The case dates back to Aug 5, 2004, when Meena allegedly led a group attempting to force their way toward a stage during a Ghoomar programme at the university campus. According to police, the incident resulted in violence when a stone thrown from the crowd injured a constable's eye at the women's gate.
Trial court's presiding officer Khushoo Parihar delivered the verdict, highlighting the prosecution's failure to present any independent witnesses. Notably, the injured police constable, Man Singh, did not appear to testify during the court proceedings. "The accused is acquitted due to insufficient evidence provided by the prosecution," Parihar stated in her order.
Meena, who contested the by-elections in Deoli-Uniara assembly constituency of Tonk district in 2024, was brought to the court from Tonk Central Jail, where he is currently imprisoned under separate charges. He was arrested earlier last year for allegedly disrupting peace and assaulting an SDM during the assembly bypoll.
