Kelsey Grammer details sister’s unthinkable final moments after being brutally stabbed 42 times: ‘He almost decapitated her’
Kelsey Grammer delivered a “graphic, impersonal review” of his sister Karen Grammer’s 1975 murder in his new book.
While the “Frasier” star admittedly was hesitant to include the brutal stabbing in his new memoir, “Karen: A Brother Remembers,” he decided it was “beneficial” to share.
“It is ammunition to keep Freddie Glenn in jail,” he wrote (via People) of the man who is serving a life sentence in prison for raping and killing Karen in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Karen was approached by three men outside of the Red Lobster she worked at around 11 p.m. on June 30, 1975, while waiting for a co-worker.
Glenn and the two individuals, who had initially planned to rob the restaurant, demanded Karen go with them.
“For what?” she asked, ultimately being taken into the strangers’ car, where she was tied up, brought to an apartment and repeatedly raped.
The 18-year-old was subsequently driven to — and killed in — an alley.
Glenn stabbed her 42 times, with Kelsey, 70, writing in his memoir that “he almost decapitated her” and “punched holes in” her “body with unimaginable brutality.”
He noted, “The coroner noted that through a gaping wound in her neck, he could see all the way into Karen’s lung. … There were defensive wounds on her hands.”
Karen crawled “400 feet from the place where she had been stabbed” to knock on a trailer door for help.
“Bloody fingerprints mark the trail of her final moments at exactly 3’6” along the office and walls of the trailer park,” Kelsey told readers. “She had been on her knees, crawling her way. Seeking help with her last ounce of life.
“She had fallen backward from the trailer door after knocking for help,” the “Cheers” alum continued. “It was her last hope and disappointment.”
He clarified that the man who opened the door and called the police was not the Good Samaritan he hoped for.
“That man did not attempt to help her but simply called the police after leaving her body as it lay,” he explained. “Eyes vacant, staring at the sky, her legs still on the steps, her head on the ground and a clenched fist above her head with a single finger pointing — somewhere or nowhere — just pointing.”
Kelsey reported his sister missing and was the family member to identify her body one week later.
Glenn was sentenced to life in prison in 1976 for Karen’s murder, as well as several other victims, and his next hearing is in 2027 after four parole denials.
Kelsey elaborated on other horrific tragedies in his life in the book, from his father Allen Grammer’s murder, to his half-brothers Billy Grammer and Stephen Grammer’s suspected shark attack deaths.
