Mangaluru: DYFI Dakshina Kannada unit has demanded action against those attempting to disturb peace in the district. The youth forum also demanded compensation for those injured in stabbing and attempted murder incidents reported in the district recently.
"The violence triggered by the killing of BJP member and rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty in Bajpe last night has extended to additional areas of the district. The inability of the police force to maintain order following the murder resulted in a troubling event, with several uninvolved labourers being assaulted with knives while travelling to their workplaces at various spots," said DYFI Dakshina Kannada district president BK Imthiyaz and district secretary Santosh Bajal, expressing grave concern about these developments.
The DYFI leaders demanded the arrest of the killers of Shetty at the earliest. A delegation of DYFI members visited Naushad, who was stabbed early in the morning in Kannur in the city, and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.
Imthiyaz said that though the Congress is heading the govt in the state, it is shameful to note that Sangh Parivar forces seem to have gained control over Dakshina Kannada. Despite several instances of communal hatred being repeated, the district minister has failed to visit and take necessary steps to bring the situation under control. No action has been initiated yet against Sangh Parivar leaders, who announced a district-wide bandh and incited violence. Common men in the district are forced to live in fear due to the apathy of the govt, Imthiyaz said.
The district administration's inability to guarantee basic medical cost coverage for injured labourers from the Muslim community, who are receiving treatment in private hospitals, deserves strong criticism, he added.
