Rain could slam the brakes on heatwave spell in Gurgaon this weekend
Gurgaon: Residents can expect a respite from the scorching heat as India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rainfall across the state over the next five days.
A western disturbance is expected to bring down temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius, with a yellow alert issued for dust storms, thunderstorms and scattered showers across several parts of the state, including the city, until May 6.

Moreover, IMD said a cyclonic circulation persists over southwest Rajasthan, with a trough extending southwards to Kerala in the lower tropospheric levels. "This western disturbance and associated cyclonic circulations will increase the convective activity over northwest India. Several parts of Haryana are expected to see gusty winds and light showers. This will cause a fall in temperatures for a brief period," an IMD official said.
On Thursday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 26.3 degrees Celsius, slightly up from 25.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, and a degree above the seasonal average. The maximum temperature also rose marginally to 36 degrees Celsius from 35.5 degrees Celsius — five notches below the normal for this time of year.
The weather department further advised residents to stay alert during thunderstorms and dust storms and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure.
For Friday, IMD predicted clear skies in the morning and clouds during the afternoon. The temperature is likely to hover between 25 and 39 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the city's air quality remained ‘poor' for the second consecutive day, with the AQI recording at 249 on Thursday, a slight improvement from 270 a day earlier.
