Patients visiting the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for outpatient (OP) services will have to pay ₹10 for an OP ticket. The decision, taken by the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital Development Society, came into effect on Friday (May 2, 2025).
The newly issued OP ticket will be valid for a period of two months. However, under the new rule, if a doctor prescribes medication and there is no space left on the existing OP ticket for further notes or follow-up consultations, the patient will be required to purchase a new ticket for ₹10.
Notably, patients seeking consultations from other departments on the same day of the initial registration will not be charged extra. However, if the patient chooses to consult doctors from other departments on subsequent days, an additional ₹10 will be levied per OP ticket.
The society has issued directions to display clear notices regarding the new fee structure at all OP counters.
The move is expected to help the hospital manage patient flow more efficiently, while generating minimal revenue to support operational costs. Earlier attempts to implement the fee had to be kept in abeyance following strong opposition from various quarters.
