Palanpur: The 17-year-old girl who consumed poison in a family suicide bid on April 13 succumbed during treatment at a hospital in Gandhinagar, marking the wipeout of the five-member family that resided in Vadali village of Sabarkantha district.
Vinu Sagar (42) and his wife Kokila (40) died the same night, April 13, while the couple's two sons, Nilesh (14) and Narendra, died a day later in the same Gandhinagar hospital. Late Thursday afternoon, their daughter Krishna also passed away.
On April 13, the Sagar couple took the drastic step and administered poison to their three children. The parents died on the spot, while the two sons and daughter were rushed to the Gandhinagar hospital from Himmatnagar Civil Hospital. Both sons died during treatment a few hours after admission.
Vadali police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against two people after allegations that they were mentally torturing the family for repayment of loaned money. On the statement of the daughter, the police booked Bhadrarajsinh Chauhan, an agent of a private bank, and one Ankit Patel. Chauhan was arrested and sent to judicial custody, while Patel is yet to be nabbed.
The family was facing an acute financial crisis, and their deaths have triggered an uproar in their community. The victims were working as farm labourers in the village.
