Women availed themselves of 32.18 crore trips under free travel in government buses in Salem district, says Minister

Women passengers availed themselves of 32.18 crore free bus trips in Salem district in the last four years, said Tourism Minister R. Rajendran on Thursday.

The Minister inaugurated air-conditioned retiring rooms for the staff of the Meyyanur, Thammampatti, Pallapatti, and Tiruchengode depots that come under the Salem Division of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) on Thursday.

The Minister said that for the benefit of school and college students, people living in the rural areas, women, and farmers, old buses were replaced with new ones, and buses were operated on new routes and in extended routes. The retiring rooms were built for the benefit of transport workers. After the DMK came to power, in the last four years, 18 air-conditioned retiring rooms were inaugurated in 18 depots at ₹73 lakh in the Salem Division of TNSTC.

Explaining the schemes implemented in Salem district in the DMK regime, Mr. Rajendran said women had availed themselves of 32.18 crore trips till now, including 14.53 lakh trips in hill areas in the district. Similarly, in the past four years, 82 new mofussil buses and 13 new town buses were provided for Salem district.
