Updated - May 02, 2025 01:01 pm IST - SIVAGANGA

When a private bus crew was questioned by a media person for rash and negligent driving, the driver allegedly assaulted the journalist on Thursday.

As the news spread, a group of journalists rallied and public also joined them.

The journalist said that the private bus plying between Devakottai and Madurai drove in a rash manner. The bus driver drove at break neck speed that many motorists were threatened and shocked at the driving. When the bus stopped , he had questioned the driver in Tirupathur.

Even as journalist Naina Mohamed seemed to suggest to the driver not to indulge in rash driving, the driver assaulted him and left towards Madurai.

Immediately, the issue was taken up with the Tirupathur police. However, the SI of Police did not take up the complaint, they said.

When the journalists brought it to the attention of the higher ups, the SI of Police received the complaint and booked a case.

Under such circumstances, when the bus returned from Madurai to Devakottai, the public, stopped and resorted to a road blockade stir. The police pacified them and assured to take action as per the laws following which they dispersed.

The bus was taken to the Tirupathur station and senior officers said that the driver, who was accused of having assaulted the journalist, was yet to be questioned as in the return direction, there was another driver.

Further investigation was on.
