Many Bollywood actresses who, despite being veterans in the industry, are still fan favourites. Whether it is Madhubala, Waheeda Rehman, Rekha, or even Sridevi, all these actresses have been iconic and made people go gaga behind them. However, today, we will tell you about an actress who achieved massive stardom on screen and then put everything at risk because of just one personal matter. This actress made people go crazy with her looks, and not just that, but her performance too. If you are wondering who we are talking about, then the actress is none other than Mumtaz.

Mumtaz made her debut as a child artist in the film Sone Ki Chidiya in the year 1958. Her adult debut came in 1962 with Vallah Kya Baat Hai. The actress cemented her presence with the romantic potboiler Patthar Ke Sanam. Over the next few years, Mumtaz went on to become one of the top-paid actresses of her time.

The majority of Mumtaz’s films turned out to be a huge success, and as a result, her name and fame reached the level of the sky. However, do you know that at the peak of her career, Mumtaz left everything to get married?

In a conversation with journalist Vicky Lalwani, Mumtaz opened up on distancing herself from Indian cinema. She said that she distanced herself from cinema not of her own will, but due to pressure from her in-laws. In the year 1974, Mumtaz decided to get married. With this decision, she accepted the condition of her in-laws, keeping her stardom aside and said goodbye to cinema.

In the interview, the veteran actress said, “At the time of my marriage, the Madhwani family clearly said, you will not work after marriage…” For the unversed, when Mumtaz was at the peak of her career, she married Ugandan millionaire Mayur Madhwani in 1974.

The actress said goodbye to Indian cinema, left the industry, and got settled in London.
