Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday (May 1, 2025) said the country should become truly egalitarian.

“That’s our policy, our goal. We endorse this in every initiative that we take,” he said addressing May Day celebrations at the May Day Park in Chennai.

Mr. Stalin said in the last four years the State government has provided welfare measures to the tune of ₹2,461 crore to the unorganised workers and has also announced a separate welfare board for gig workers.

He said that the approach of the DMK government is that labour issues must be resolved through constructive dialogue and peaceful negotiation.

Mr. Stalin also assured that the state government would always stand in solidarity with the working class.

He recalled that it was former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi who passed an order that all workers be given a holiday, with wages, on May Day.
