Dindigul MP R. Sachithanantham on Thursday slammed the BJP-led Central government for trying to impose the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Hindi in Tamil Nadu

Speaking at the inauguration of Tamil Nadu Primary School Teachers Federation Conference in Dindigul, the MP said that the main objective of the conference was to protect the government schools in Tamil Nadu and reject NEP 2020 and Hindi imposition.

Criticising the Centre, he said that the Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan has stated that the Central government will not release funds under the Samagra Shiksha scheme if the National Education Policy was not adopted. Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal have not received the funds. The Central government was also forcing Tamil Nadu to implement the PM SHRI schools scheme, he said.

The Central government launched the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) which was aimed at improving the quality of education in schools and providing better infrastructure in schools. The idea was to create model schools.

However, even prior to the Central scheme being launched, several model schools were already established across Tamil Nadu. There were model schools in every district in the State. When the State government was taking care of the education in Tamil Nadu, the Central government was trying to dictate terms. “Is this right”, he asked.

Mr. Sachithanantham said that if the National Education Policy was implemented it will lead to privatisation of education. When it was questioned Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan called Tamil Nadu MPs as uncivilised, he said. The MP also criticised the BJP government for the Waqf (Amendment) Act and the security lapses in Jammu and Kashmir.
