New Delhi: Police has detained 6,584 people since the launch of its anti-harassment squads, known as Shistachar Squads, officials said on Thursday.
Formed under the special police unit for women and children, the squads started operating across all 15 districts on March 17.
In just over a month, police officers have carried out 1,055 targeted drives and seized 275 vehicles linked to suspicious or unlawful activity.
The squads have police personnel, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and both male and female officers, supported by technical staff from the special units, when needed. Each district formed at least two such squads, supervised by the ACP of the crimes against women cell.
These teams are equipped with four-wheelers and two-wheelers and are tasked with patrolling hotspots and vulnerable areas identified by district police heads.
Operating with a three-pronged approach of prevention, intervention and victim assistance, the squads conduct daily drives at risk zones and rotate across different locations.
Their operations also include deploying plain-clothed female officers. TNN
