Patna-Gaya trains: Association demands better services

Patna: Bihar Daily Passengers' Association has voiced strong concerns over the growing inconvenience faced by daily commuters on the Patna-Gaya section of the ECR's Danapur division. The association has pointed to a recent reduction in the number of MEMU (mainline electric multiple unit) bogies from 16 to 12, causing overcrowding in most of the passenger trains operating on this busy route.
According to the association president Birendra Sharma, the worst affected services are the Patna-Gaya MEMU trains 63245 and 63254, where passengers are often forced to travel in cramped and unsafe conditions due to insufficient seating capacity.
In an appeal to ECR GM Chhatrasal Singh and Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhry, the association has urged them to take immediate steps to improve the situation. Among other demands of the association is the extension of the Sonepur-Katihar MEMU up to Danapur or Patna, which would provide relief to the needy passengers on this particular route.
Additionally, the association has reiterated the need to restart the discontinued Danapur-Vaishali passenger train. It has proposed the introduction of a new direct train service between Patna and Siwan to fulfil the needs of daily commuters in the region, Sharma said.
