Collector K. Elambahvath inaugurated an automated milk procurement centre at Ayanrajapatti in Pudur union, initiated through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund of HCL.

At the event Mr. Elambahavath said that the HCL had been initiating various development projects in Pudur and Vilathikulam union, out of 12 panchayat unions in the district. He added that the organsiation had adopted the 44 village panchayats in Pudur union and 51 village panchayats in Vilathikulam union and provides necessary drinking water, sanitation, education, agriculture and medicinal services for the benefit of the people in these villages.

As part of the continued efforts, the organisation had taken another major step to encourage the cattle breeders and to increase the milk production in the region, he added.

The Collector noted that the procurement centre will function as part of the government’s Aavin corporation. Highlighting the district’s low milk production, Mr. Elambahavath said several proactive measures are being taken to address the issue.

“In the rural economy, agriculture remains the primary source of income. But, beyond farming, livestock and other agricultural activities can provide better income, such as a pair of cows would be helpful in generating additional income,” he added.

Kovilpatti Revenue Divisional Officer Mahalakshmi along with officials from Aavin and HCL were present at the event.
