CMRL conducts trial run of driverless train till Porur junction
Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited on Monday conducted a trial run of a driverless train beyond Mullai Thottam up to Porur junction on corridor 4 of its phase 2 project. The train was operated at 40kmph.
The 10km viaduct section connects Poonamallee Bypass with Porur junction, with Poonamallee metro depot serving as the coordination hub for the trial phase.

CMRL managing director M A Siddique and directors from various departments witnessed the trial run. Siddique said the extended trials marked a significant milestone in phase 2 and reflected CMRL's efforts to meet project timelines swiftly. The dynamic tests would progressively assess safety and passenger comfort standards, moving the project closer to commissioning for public use.
Stage 1 trials will continue in the coming weeks, with CMRL aiming to open the corridor at the earliest.
The first trial run of CMRL's phase 2 was conducted on a 2km stretch between Poonamallee and Mullai Thottam. The driverless train was operated at 25kmph on March 20.
