Cong plans protest at Azad Maidan over governance failures
Panaji: Congress announced that it will organise a massive protest on Sunday at 4 pm at Azad Maidan against inflation, breakdown of law and order, rampant drug use, atrocities against Dalits and women, and rising unemployment.
South Goa MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes (Retd) said that Goans are struggling in an “increasingly hostile environment” that caters to everybody except the sons and daughters of the soil. “The serious crisis of governance left Goan communities defenceless and at the mercy of every opportunistic fortune hunter who finds in Goa a conducive atmosphere to implement their dreams and schemes at the cost of the ordinary Goan,” said Fernandes.
He said 12,000 young Goans enter the job market each year but struggle to find work. “Govt’s inability to provide adequate water and power is a source of acute distress to Goans. That, however, does not seem to deter authorities from ushering in mega projects that will only increase the prevailing misery and confusion,” said Fernandes.
He also said the BJP-led govt has lost sight of its constitutional duties and responsibilities.
