Three govt officials held for assaulting cops in police stn
Jaipur: Three govt officials — a GST inspector, a cooperative inspector, and an assistant registrar — were arrested Saturday for allegedly assaulting police personnel and creating a ruckus inside Kanota police station on the outskirts of Jaipur while heavily intoxicated.
Jaipur police commissioner Biju George Joseph said the trio was initially brought to the police station after locals complained they were causing public disorder. However, once inside the station, the officials turned violent, attacking on-duty officers. "One of our head constables sustained fracture in hand," Joseph said.
DCP (east) Tejaswini Gautam said the three officials were identified as Ram Avtar Meena, posted as a GST inspector in Mumbai, Jitendra Choudhary, posted as a cooperative inspector in Jaipur, and Hari Ram, posted as an assistant registrar in Sikar. "All three of them were heavily drunk and creating a nuisance on the public road. They were brought to the police station where they attacked the personnel," Gautam said.
The DCP said the accused did not cooperate at the station, leading to violent scuffles, serious injuries to police personnel, and damage to govt property, police said on Sunday. "The trio had parked a Thar vehicle in the middle of a road, blocking traffic and verbally abusing passersby. Upon receiving distress calls from locals, police detained the officials, bringing them to the station when they began abusing cops," said an official.
The situation worsened inside the police premises. An inspector said the officials refused to reveal their names, misbehaved with officers, and claimed to be ‘high-ranking officials'. They smashed a table's glass top, tore the police leave register, and created a ruckus.
When officers tried to restrain them, the trio assaulted head constable Babulal and two other constables. Babulal suffered a fracture in his arm, while other constables sustained injuries. The case was handed over to assistant police commissioner (Bassi) Vinay Kumar DH for investigation. CCTV footage from the station was also obtained as evidence.
