The Ettumanoor Police have filed the chargesheet in the murder of a civil police officer by a history-sheeter near Thellakom on February 2.
Officials said the accused, identified as Jibin George, has been booked under Sections 296(b), 351(1), 126(2), 115(2), 103, and 3(5) of the BNS. The chargesheet is supported by statements from 64 witnesses and various scientific evidence. Ansal A.S., Station House Officer at Ettumanoor, led the probe under the supervision of Kottayam District Police Chief Shahul Hameed A.
The victim, Shyam Prasad, a civil police officer and driver attached to the Kottayam West police station was killed while trying to prevent the attack of a history-sheeter at a roadside eatery at Thellakom on February 2 night. Shyam was fatally assaulted by Jibin when he tried to prevent the latter from attacking the woman who ran the eatery.
