Mumbai: Five young men were arrested from Rajasthan and Chhatisgarh for duping a Mumbai-based engineer of Rs 3.4 lakh in a task fraud. Police said the accused have been involved in cyber frauds in different states where they have conned citizens of Rs 30 crore collectively.
The 26-year-old complainant works at a tech company. On Dec 19, 2024, he was at home when he received a text over WhatsApp from an unknown number, inquiring if he was interested in a work-from-home offer. He agreed. The sender then asked for his personal information and UPI details which he shared. He was asked to click on a link and subscribe to it to earn a commission of Rs 150. When he received the commission as promised, he was convinced.

Further, the accused asked him to give five-star ratings for hotels online and earn bonuses for it. He did the task and received a bonus of Rs 100 and another of Rs 900. But a few days later, he discovered that a sum of Rs 3.4 lakh had been debited to his bank account fraudulently. He then registered a complaint with the Vakola Police.
A police team, supervised by DCP Manish Kalvaniya and senior inspector Prakash Khandekar, and comprising inspector Amar Patil, sub-inspector Yashpal Badgujar and sub-insepctor Jeevan Gutte tracked down the location of five accused persons and arrested them from Rajasthan and Chhatisgarh. The accused were identified as Rajkaran Singh Tanvar, 19, Karan Singh Sengar, 19, Mohammad Shaqib Ansari, 27, Miraz Akram, 20, and Fuzel Ahmed Ansari, 21. Five cases have been solved with the arrest of these accused persons.
Of the arrested accused, Tanvar and Sengar are students from Rajasthan and the rest of the men are Bhiwandi residents.
