Navi Mumbai: Bail applications of two Kharghar residents who allegedly assaulted a dog feeder in Kharghar, were rejected by additional sessions judge KG Paldewar of the Panvel court.
The judge cited the serious nature of the injury inflicted on the dog feeder,
Deepak Kumar, whose internal ear membrane was affected, requiring medical treatment from an ENT specialist.
The two accused, Vishnu Mukund Redkar and Ankit Suri, are residents of Sector 10. Redkar is a retired police official.
Welcoming this recent court development in the assault case, head of People for Animals (PFA), Vijay Rangare, said, "We are satisfied with the Panvel court order of Apr 17, rejecting bail for the two accused who badly beat up the dog feeder, Deepak Kumar, on the night of Feb 19 this year. This assault was video-recorded by Kumar's companion. We submitted all evidence to the Kharghar police, who had earlier lodged an FIR against ‘unknown persons'. We pursued the case with the police to get the names of the two accused added."
Rangare added, "Since the two accused have been identified in the video of the assault, the feeders opposed their pre-arrest bail. They are currently in jail custody. This will be a deterrent to those who feel that they can abuse animal lovers and get away with it."
Detailing the reasoning for rejecting the bail, the judge stated in his order, "Hon'ble Apex Court laid down the parameters for the grant of pre-arrest bail... on 29 Jan 2020 as ‘Courts ought to be generally guided by considerations such as the nature and gravity of the offences, the role attributed to the applicant, and the facts of the case, while considering whether to grant anticipatory bail, or refuse it...'"
