Jaipur: National Investigation Agency (NIA) has seized several electronic devices and other evidence in raids carried out in Rajasthan and five other states in a case linked to Khalistani supporters involved in cross-border smuggling of weapons and narcotics, officials said Sunday.
Searches were conducted at 18 locations across Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Karnataka Thursday. In Rajasthan, NIA teams raided the residence of a doctor in Jhunjhunu and a location in Deeg area of Bharatpur district, sources said.
NIA said in a press note that the raids were part of an investigation into a network backed by Pakistan that was smuggling weapons and narcotics into India. The seized materials are being examined to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy, NIA said.
According to NIA, the operation targeted premises of individuals suspected of being influenced by banned organisations and extremist ideologies. The suspects were allegedly conspiring through social media and were in contact with foreign elements, the investigation agency said.
