Young Congress leader, aide arrested for assault on BJP worker

Ludhiana: Sarabha Nagar police arrested general secretary, Punjab Youth Congress, Sarvotam Singh, also known as Lucky Sandhu from Sahnewal, and his accomplice, Anmol Singh, for attacking his rival, Gurbir Singh Garcha,a BJP worker, over an old grudge. The arrested accused allegedly attacked the BJP worker with the help of their aides near South City. People gathered at the spot and apprehended the accused, who were handed over to the police, while the others managed to escape.
In 2023, Lucky Sandhu was arrested by the Model Town police for trying to extort money from Garcha with the help of a Mohali-based social media influencer, Jasneet Kaur, also known as Rajvir Kaur. They threatened to make a conversation between Garcha and Jasneet viral. However, Garcha got an FIR lodged against them, following which the influencer and Sandhu were arrested.
"On Friday evening, I was going towards Ayali Chowk near South City in my SUV, along with my personal security officer, when Lucky Sandhu and his aides, who came in at least three cars, intercepted me. The accused, who was carrying a rifle, assaulted me. Meanwhile, onlookers intervened and nabbed Lucky and his accomplice, Anmol, while the others managed to escape. People handed the accused over to the police and took me to hospital. I suffered a head injury in the attack," Garcha said. He added that Lucky Sandhu was lodged in jail and had come out on bail about two to three months ago. "Since then, he has been threatening me. I had been getting several calls, but I was not responding to them," he said.
ASI Ashwani Kumar, in-charge of the Raghunath Police post, said that police registered a case on charges of attempted murder. Lucky Sandhu and Anmol Singh have been arrested, and the remaining accused are being identified. Police also recovered a toy rifle from their possession.
In April 2023, Model Town police arrested Youth Congress leader, Lucky Sandhu, for his alleged involvement in a honey trap case. It was alleged that social media influencer, Jasneet, Lucky Sandhu, and their unidentified accomplice tried to extort money from Garcha by threatening to release his conversation with Jasneet on social media. Gurbir lodged a police complaint, after which an FIR was lodged. In Sep, 2022, the accused woman sought Rs 2 crore extortion money from Gurbir by threatening to release their conversation. The deal was struck at Rs 35 lakh. Gurbir gave Rs 1 lakh to the accused. When the accused and her accomplice met Gurbir to get the remaining amount, they were arrested by Kharar Police. After coming out on bail, Jasneet and her accomplices tried to extort money from Gurbir Singh again.
In Dec, 2023, then police commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal suspended two cops, including sub-inspector Mangal Singh and assistant sub-inspector Kuldeep Singh. On Dec 8, the two cops went to Ludhiana Central Jail after the jail doctor recommended a check-up for Congress leader Lucky Sandhu at PGI, Chandigarh, due to a complaint of back pain.
That day, Sandhu was seen dancing at a wedding in a marriage palace on Mullanpur-Raikot road, a video of which surfaced on social media platforms. A departmental enquiry was marked, during which cops claimed to have taken Sandhu to the wedding as he wanted to meet his family. However, Sandhu was initially taken to his house, where he got ready for the wedding. Police did not reveal findings of the inquiry.
