The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against K.M. Abraham, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in connection with an allegation that he has amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The CBI move comes against the backdrop of the Kerala High Court ordering a CBI investigation into the allegations against the former Chief Secretary on April 11.
Mr. Abraham is also at present Chief Executive Officer of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board.
The High Court order had come on a petition by activist Jomon Puthenpurackal challenging a Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance special court order dismissing his petition for a Vigilance probe. The High Court had directed the Superintendent of Police, Kochi unit of the CBI, to register an FIR against Mr. Abraham based on Mr. Puthenpurackal’s complaint.
Subsequently, on April 16, Mr. Abraham had also written to the Chief Minister seeking a police inquiry into an alleged conspiracy meant to discredit him. The allegation against Mr. Abraham is that he had movable and immovable properties disproportionate to his known sources of income.
