Gold, silver ornaments stolen from historic Bagdevi temple

Berhampur: Valuable gold and silver ornaments were stolen from the historic Bagdevi temple in Kulada, Ganjam district, late Friday night. The ancient Shakti shrine was targeted by unidentified thieves who stole several precious items, including the deity's golden and silver eyes.
The theft came to light Saturday morning when temple priests discovered the missing ornaments and alerted police. "We responded promptly and have launched an investigation," said Jeevanand Jena, inspector in-charge of Bhanjanagar police station.
Preliminary estimates suggest the loss exceeds Rs 1.50 lakh. Police believe the perpetrators gained easy access through the temple's main gate, which was left open. "We are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the temple premises to identify the culprits," IIC Jena added.
