The much-awaited Dasanaickenpatti flyover on the Salem-Namakkal National Highway is nearing completion, and vehicles are allowed to pass over the flyover on a trial basis.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) commenced construction of the 450 metre-long flyover in January 2022 at ₹13.5 crore and scheduled it for completion in 18 months (before June 2023). However, due to an issue between the sub-contractor and main contractor, the work was delayed and various political parties staged protests demanding early completion of the flyover. The NHAI conducted a meeting with the contractors in May last year and now, the works are nearing completion.

Officials attached to the NHAI said that almost 98% of the work was over and vehicles were allowed to use the flyover on a trial basis for the last one week. The remaining works will be completed in the next 10 days and the flyover will be opened officially, they said.

Vehicles heading to Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchi, and other southern districts from Salem pass through Dasanaickenpatti, and vehicles from these districts proceeding towards Dharmapuri also use this stretch. The residents of the nearby villages struggled to use the highway. Following several accidents, the NHAI took up construction of the flyover following the public demand.
