Residents protest against private dairy unit near Erode

Erode: More than 100 people from five villages protested for three hours outside a private dairy unit near Poonthurai in the district on Wednesday night, raising concerns about the dust and unpleasant odour coming from the facility.
The private dairy company is located at Kathaikkinaru near Poonthurai.
Residents from Kathaikkinaru, Aluthupalayam and Semmankuzhipalayam villages were among those participated in the protest.
P Sivanandham, a protester, said the emissions from the unit was causing respiratory and health issues to residents living near the unit. Complaints to the dairy management had gone unaddressed, he added.
Despite the management of the company attempting to calm the situation, the protest continued past midnight.
The Modakurichi police intervened and negotiated with the protesters, leading to a peaceful resolution and the dispersal of the crowd.
