11 thieves held in Silchar, gold and valuables recovered

Silchar: Eleven suspected thieves were arrested and a significant amount of gold and other valuables were recovered by police in Silchar on Wednesday night.
Briefing reporters at Silchar Sadar police station on Thursday, superintendent of police (Cachar) Numal Mahatta said residents of Silchar and its adjoining areas had recently filed complaints of thefts.
Based on these complaints, police carried out a special operation in Silchar on Wednesday night and nabbed 11 suspected thieves, including a woman.
Most of the suspects hail from Barak Valley while some are from Hojai district and other parts of the state, SP Mahatta said.
While two of the arrested individuals have already been sent to jail, nine others will soon be prosecuted and strict punishment will be advocated for them in the court of law, the SP said..
Gold items, cables, wires, items used for building and road construction work, television, one rickshaw were recovered during the operation, Mahatta said.
