The Adilabad district police have cracked the whip on errant private money-lenders by registering as many as 31 cases against them for alleged usury under Section 3 (5) (b) of Telangana Area Money Lenders Act 1349 F, in various parts of the district.

As part of the crackdown against fleecing of borrowers, multiple police teams conducted simultaneous raids at different locations in 10 mandals of the district under the supervision of Adilabad Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan.

Police have seized blank promissory notes, cheques and land documents from the accused money-lenders.

The crackdown follows a slew of complaints by aggrieved borrowers, including farmers, against alleged harassment by money-lenders charging exorbitant interest rates.

The highest number of 10 cases were registered under the Ichoda police station limits followed by six cases in Boath police station jurisdiction.
