Agartala: Tripura govt has launched an extensive progarmme for repairing embankments and construction of drainage system worth Rs 150 crore across the state, taking account of last year's floods fury, water resources and PWD secretary Kiran Gitte said.
"We have identified 43 critical locations across the state where urgent flood management work was required, and work has commenced, focusing on the embankment management to prevent flooding from river water and cleaning of all 12 rivers in Tripura to ensure free water flow. A total of 44 vulnerable embankment sites have been identified, and protection work has already commenced," Gitte said. He said CM Mank Saha has placed special emphasis on the construction of different embankments to reduce the catastrophic effects of floods. Recently, a high-level team of the state administration visited the flood-prone villages in south Tripura district & assured residents that flood management infrastructure projects in the area will be completed within three months.
