Pune, April 23, 2025 — A case of death due to negligence has been registered against seven individuals, including the owner and employees of a water park resort in Bhor taluka, after a 28-year-old woman tragically died following a fall from a 30-foot-high zip line tower on Friday, April 18.
The deceased, Taral Atpalkar, a resident of Narhe, had visited the water park located in Varge village—around 30 km from Pune—with her family. According to police reports, the family had spent the day at the resort, enjoying various recreational activities, with the zip line being the final attraction of the day.
Around 6 pm, Atpalkar was preparing for the zip line ride. Due to the harness being set too high, she was asked to stand on an iron stool. In the process, she reportedly lost her balance and fell from the launch platform. She sustained critical head injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Rajgad police senior inspector Rajesh Gawali said that preliminary findings revealed serious lapses in safety arrangements at the adventure facility. While a safety net was in place on one side of the zip line track, it was missing on the side where Atpalkar fell. “The absence of a safety net on that side directly contributed to the fatality,” he stated.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Assistant police inspector Tukaram Rathod confirmed that the water park’s operator, along with six other staff members, is under investigation.
Atpalkar had completed an aeronautical engineering course from a Pune-based aviation institute and was employed with an IT company in Balewadi. She is survived by her mother. Her uncle, Nandkishor Atpalkar, has filed the official complaint with the police.
The water park has since been temporarily closed, and further investigation is ongoing.
