Ranchi airport tightens security post terror attack
Ranchi: In response to Tuesday's terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, authorities at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi have intensified security measures, while railway stations maintain their existing security protocols.
The airport has implemented rigorous vehicle checks at entry and exit points to ensure passenger and staff safety. Assisted by sniffer dog squads, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel conducted mock drills and thoroughly inspected passengers' luggage and belongings.
Following a security review meeting on Wednesday, enhanced measures were implemented until further notice. Airport director R R Mourya stated, "As per ministry of home affairs (MHA) instructions, the secondary ladder point check for passenger baggage scanning was scaled up on Wednesday. Security arrangements are enhanced based on MHA or bureau of civil aviation security directives, not specific incidents."
Mourya confirmed that flight operations remained unaffected, noting that dog squad frisking is part of routine security procedures.
In response to the situation, the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) advised airlines to increase flights meeting the heightened demand and maintain consistent connectivity from Srinagar. Airlines were also requested to consider waiving cancellation and rescheduling fees for stranded tourists.
Meanwhile, Ranchi and Hatia railway stations maintained their standard security protocols. Ranchi railway division CPRO Shuchi Singh stated, "The railway station premises are already well-secured and under high surveillance. With sufficient security personnel regularly deployed at both stations, no additional security arrangements were necessary following the Pahalgam terror attack."
These measures reflect the authorities' commitment to ensuring passenger safety while maintaining efficient operations at transportation hubs.
