Saint Vincent's Hardner Building evacuated after car crash. How the hospital is impacted

Saint Vincent Hospital evacuated one of its medical office buildings April 22 after a valet drove a car into the building.

The accident occurred in the early afternoon at the Hardner Building, 2315 Myrtle St., Saint Vincent officials said in a statement. The driver was taken to Saint Vincent's emergency department, located adjacent to the Hardner Building, for treatment.

The valet was listed in stable condition, hospital officials said.

Saint Vincent evacuated the Hardner Building after the accident as a safety precaution. A structural engineer was scheduled to inspect the building later in the day to ensure its safety before patients, visitors and staff were allowed inside.

Hospital staff contacted patients to reschedule appointments at the Hardner Building. Saint Vincent's emergency department and the rest of the hospital remained open.

Medical helicopter traffic was rerouted from Saint Vincent because the helipad is located on top of the Hardner Building. Ambulance traffic has not been affected and the emergency department parking lot remained open.
