Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir – April 23, 2025 — In a major breakthrough following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists and left dozens injured, security forces have released images and sketches of the suspects believed to be affiliated with the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The ambush took place on Tuesday, April 22, at the scenic Baisaran meadow—a popular tourist destination in the Anantnag district. Gunmen dressed in a mix of camouflage and local clothing emerged from the surrounding forest and opened fire with automatic rifles, triggering chaos and panic among civilians.
Authorities have identified three suspected assailants—Asif Fuji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha—all believed to be operatives of The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of LeT. Preliminary intelligence suggests the attack was orchestrated by Saifullah Kasuri, also known as Khalid, a top LeT commander currently based in Pakistan.
Security officials report that the militants had infiltrated the region several days before the attack and conducted detailed reconnaissance of the area. Two of the suspects reportedly spoke Pashto, indicating the involvement of foreign nationals, while others are thought to be local recruits from Bijbehara and Tral.
A large-scale search and cordon operation is underway, with Indian Army helicopters deployed to comb the dense forests surrounding Pahalgam. Authorities believe the attackers may have slipped into the hills with cross-border logistical support. Preliminary digital forensics have traced some communication links to Muzaffarabad and Karachi.
