Nagpur: A fire broke out near the Punjab National Bank premises near VCA at Civil Lines on Tuesday evening, causing panic among nearby residents. However, prompt action by locals and the fire department helped prevent any major damage.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in an area adjacent to the bank where dry trees and vegetation accumulated. "Old trees and dry shrubs caught fire, leading to tall flames and heavy smoke," said a resident who lives just behind the bank compound. "The fire did not spread inside the financial institution building of ground plus one storey, averting a possible major incident. If it had gone unnoticed for longer, it could have escalated significantly," confirmed Civil Lines fire station officer Tushar Barahate.
Alerted by neighbours, the residents immediately contacted the police control room, following which the fire brigade was informed. Firefighters arrived swiftly and managed to contain the fire before it could cause extensive damage. No injuries or significant property loss were reported. The cause of the fire is not known yet.
