With the protest being staged by residents against the Parandur airport project crossing 1,000 days, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay on Monday, yet again, extended his support to the protesting residents.

In a message on X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Vijay urged the residents of Parandur and nearby areas fighting for their livelihood to remain confident. “Stay strong. Tomorrow is ours,” Mr. Vijay said.

In January this year, Mr. Vijay visited the site of the proposed airport and spoke to the residents who may be displaced by the project. During the visit, he said that he was not averse to development, but to projects like this, which will destroy the environment.

S.D. Kathiresan of Ekanapuram, said the support extended by Mr. Vijay gave a much-needed impetus to their protest. “When an actor and leader, who wields so much influence, extends his support, it directs a lot of attention. People like us feel reassured, giving us more hope that our protest will succeed,” Mr. Kathiresan said.
