Forty operations using rotablation angioplasty have been conducted at Kauvery Hospital Heartcity, Tiruchi, between between 2019 and 2024.
Rotablation angioplasty is a minimally invasive surgical procedure designed to treat severely calcified coronary artery blockages. The technique uses a high-speed diamond-tipped burr to gently clear hardened plaque from the arteries, helping restore blood flow to the heart.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, chief consultant interventional cardiologist of the hospital S. Aravindakumar, who had led the teams performing the procedure, said: “Rotablation angioplasty is often used for complex cases where traditional methods do not work. The procedure helps patients who otherwise might not have had good treatment options.”
The procedure is especially valuable for elderly patients.
T. Senthil Kumar, chief cardiothoracic vascular surgeon and executive director, Kauvery Hospital, Heartcity, spoke.
