Reminding the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin-led Tamil Nadu government of his electoral promise of reviving the old pension scheme, members of JACTTO–GEO (Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisation and Government Employees’ Organisation) took out a massive rally here on Tuesday.

The processionists, who took out the procession from Ambedkar statue in front of the District Court Complex to Chidambara Nagar bus stop, raised slogans highlighting their 10 main demands, including the revival of old pension scheme. State coordinator of JACTTO–GEO S. Mayil led the procession, in which government employees, officials and the teachers participated in large numbers.

On reaching Chidambara Nagar bus stop, the processionists staged a demonstration, which was addressed by the office-bearers of JACTTO–GEO.

JACTTO–GEO high-level committee member D. Murugan said Mr. Stalin promised in all his election rallies in 2021 that the old pension scheme would be restored at any cost. He was now maintaining silence after assuming office in May 2021.

He had constituted a committee for “studying” the Union government’s Unified Pension Scheme, which was nothing but a betrayal.

The protesters also said the government should immediately de-freeze the leave surrender facility, incentives and give the salary for secondary grade, higher secondary teachers, headmasters and physical directors on a par with Central government employees.
